AI vs PTs
2023 has been marked by a new era of Artificial Intelligence, which has already left many of our global industries forever changed. With its ability to analyse vast amounts of data and make competent decisions, I believe AI will be a game-changer in the fitness world.
From specific workout routines to advanced monitoring systems, AI will revolutionise our approach to fitness and transform the way we achieve our goals. However, as with all technological advancements, we are left with plenty of pros and cons to be considered.
I have spent some time exploring how AI will impact my work for both my in-person and online clients, and here are my top 3 takeaways:
1. AI is just a tool
Just like Google search, AI should only be used to supplement what you already know and do. It’s not your one-stop shop for programming. As a coach, I have found AI incredibly helpful when researching new programming processes. Moreover, its ability to analyse a client’s data is incredible. AI really is the personal assistant that you always wanted.
2. AI makes you more efficient
AI has given me more time to focus on what matters most; connecting with clients. I have more time to examine their videos, provide additional Zoom check-ins and more thoroughly review their programming notes. I did all of this in the past, but AI has freed up hours within my week that I previously didn’t have, and my client base has grown as a result.
3. You are unique and AI isn’t
Online coaching can be tricky, but experienced trainers know how to form a real-time connection with their clients, even when it’s primarily done through technology. A client isn’t going to have a heart-to-heart with their pal AI after a weekend unravelling their weight-loss goals. Ultimately, we hire a trainer not only for their expertise but for something more. AI doesn’t possess the emotional IQ or the hard-won trust and friendship that comes from a trainer-client relationship. The magic will always be found in human connection.
While I believe the fitness industry won’t see AI’s impact quite as quickly as other industries will, it has certainly begun to influence many facets of coaching. My top tip? Embrace AI for what it is, and use it to positively influence your work. Keep AI in your corner, before it corners you.
